Chitterne – a Wiltshire Village

I bought this book originally as background information for my genealogical research, having family connections within this part of Wiltshire. It has turned out to be a fascinating book, giving a real insight into village life in Chitterne from medieval times right up to date. It is well written and researched and the author has a real feel for the place, making the characters and events come to life through various little anecdotes.

Although it is specifically about one little village, it has parallels with rural life almost anywhere – I grew up in a similar place in North Wales and recognised many of the scenarios depicted from my own childhood. I would heartily recommend this book not only to people with an interest in Chitterne itself but also to anyone who has an interest in village life in general.
